We are delighted to introduce our Reading Club facilitator, Sayama Nann Kyi, who believes in the power of reading to transform life. Currently, she is a final-year undergraduate student at Chiang Mai University, majoring in Social Science and Sustainable Development.
💟 Her passion for reading ignited when she volunteered as a senior librarian at the Phaung Daw Oo Sutakami Library for over three years, where she initiated reading clubs. While studying at Chiang Mai University, she continues organizing the reading club with her close friends, which helps her stay connected to books and fellow readers. 🍀
📚Nann Kyi’s love for reading didn’t start at a young age. She didn’t have easy access to books outside of school textbooks. Her parents were concerned that reading might distract her from studying or lead to early relationships. However, at the age of 16, she finally began reading both in English and Burmese. Her all-time favorite author is Takkatho Phone Naing. For English books, she started with children’s books from Penguin and Ladybird Books to improve her English. Later, she moved on to fiction, particularly ‘The Art of Hearing Heartbeats’ by Jan-Philipp Sendker, which is one of her favorites. *️⃣✳️
💌 Please also see our club facilitator’s comment:
“If I were to share something with new readers or parents, I would say that it doesn’t matter where you begin—fiction, children’s books, or anything else. Every book offers something valuable and teaches you something”.
If you’re interested in reading and want to enjoy books with new friends, our Weekly Reading Club is open until November 21st.
